Topic: data use?

Has anyone found a way to utilize the data from ALM? I'd like to buy the software, but I can't justify the cost if I can't actually do anything with the data... like export it, or print it, or report on it to clients...

ALM's a great concept, but Caphyon hasn't anticipated that anyone would actually want to *do* anything with its results.

(How did this alpha software get awards??)

ALM shows promise, but 3 months after its release, and still no export or reporting in site. (which is weird, since AWR's reporting module would bolt in just ducky... export HTML or Excel reports, or XML data... AWR's awesome in that regard, why would ALM be an absolute dead in the water product in that aspect?)

How can we be expected to pay after the trial's run out... are the developers just waiting until we've financed their development sufficiently to finish the product? If so, I have grave suspicions that it will be completed at all.

Come on, Caphyon, you have potential customers here... release version 1.2 with export and reporting (before 2006, who knows what month), and we'll buy it.

Or, alternately, extend our licenses until such time as you *do* release a final non-alpha product.

(MSN doesn't even get tracked properly, so yes, it's alpha software.)

Re: data use?

Well,

That's the biggest bunch of nonsense I've ever heared. I dunno what you have against these dudes man.

Are you like, looking at the version from the site? 1.1 says anything to you?
If not, then you're in big trouble man. AWR is version 4.1 man ! Of course it has reporting and stuff, but that don't mean that ALM will not have it soon...
Hold on to your pantihose man ! It will be available.
And by the way.... Backlinks report has an export feature, to CSV from which you can mostly generate whatever report you need. You missing that feature when you're sooo upset with the lack of reporting only tells me that you DID NOT even read the help. You would have found it there. It seems to me that for you it's easier to post a message on a forum than to press the magic key F1.

And one more thing... I don't think they should even dignify this post with an answer ! It's too lame !

Re: data use?

I agree, your post is lame.

I've spoken with Caphyon on this matter several times; unlike you, my post was done with some background intelligence.

Without reporting capabilities, this is still alpha ware (not to mention the MSN tracking not functioning). You're quite challenged if you consider that a working product warranting purchase.

I'm looking forward to when ALM is a full functioning product; we've been promised that since August. Why in the world has this issue been addressed? Should I just tell clients that they're doing ok? My Fortune 100 clients like reports, go figure.

Re: data use?

I have to side with Igods on this one, not to mention that he has also been an excellent contributor to this forum.

The ALM product has some kinks in it and the support crew does not seem as quick as AWR has been in the past.  In reference to the help manual, you can't even print it out.  Also, exporting to CSV does not include valuable information such as PageRank, which is critical in analyzing the data offline.  All I can get out of this hidden export command (version 1.1) is Referrer URL, Title and Domain.  What about a breakdown by search engine? (i.e. which URLS show up on single/multiple engines?)  Also the multiple tabs of backlinks/referrers seem as if they could be consolidated into one tab for improved usability. In general the Caphyon tools are useful, but some of the features are not the most intuitive.

Any indication of rough release dates (and the feature requests ALM is looking to include) would certainly elevate this product's status in my book.

Re: data use?

Hi Wildman,

Think about this... AWR has a 3 year background, ALM only a few months. The team at Caphyon has developed AWR so far, now ALM has emerged. Do you really think that they should let go of AWR and only work at ALM because iGods wants it? I think the reason ALM has several bugs is because is 1.1. I've tested ALM from it's early beta stage and this software was released as I understood because it had a good feedback. I didn't say ALM was perfect. It is far from perfect, and I'm sure that Caphyon is working on it and will implement whatever feature we request. What this topic was about is iGods' attitude twards this software. I for one, understand that you cannot just give it all from the first version, him however does not. And just look at the threads started on this forum. Half of them are started by iGods, and he torn ALM appart each thread, even if for most users it worked fine. I wonder if he bought ALM..... If so, my friend, there is a 30 days money back guarantee! Oh !! He didn't !! Well I did, but I'm not complaining like it's the end of the world!  iGods, you've been posting since the first release. I would understand this kind of attitude from a client like myself, but from a TRIAL USER !!! Get a life man! It seems to me that you have made a purpose in life to ram these guys to the ground! What are you hoping to achieve mr. Cameron. And just from pure curiousity... how old are you?

You have no idea what the developement process of an application is right? I bet you don't. Well I know, I'm developing applications myself, and what I can tell you is that you get like 100 feature requests per day. Everyone wants his request be taken care of first because he/she "really needs it". So if we let's say get the whole Microsoft team and get them to work on Caphyon, on 3 complete products, I doubt they would do half of those feature requests. That being said, do you think Caphyon has 15.000 employees? Just relax and wait a while. Don't buy unless you really want to, and don't be so upset if you did not spend a dime on ALM. And btw MSN works fine for me.

Re: data use?

Oh, and about the printable reports, I've talked to them on their live chat and they said that the printable reports will be included in the next release early January 2006.

Re: data use?

LookandFeelManiac,

Thanks for your continued feedback.  However, I have to question your motives in a few regards to a few comments...

What this topic was about is iGods' attitude twards this software.

For some reason, I didn't seem to notice the topic of this forum was labeled "IGods Attitude".  Did you?  I agree with some of your comments that ALM cannot do it perfectly in the first swoop and that software development takes time.  However, your demeanor is very negative towards iGods who has been a critical role to this forum. You claim,

he torn ALM appart each thread, even if for most users it worked fine.

What empiracle evidence do you have to support this that "for most users it worked fine?"  Just because they haven't taken the effort to register and post feedback on their experience like we have doesn't mean it was carefree.  It appears as if IGods offers constructive feedback to ultimately help the product.  (IGods perhaps you should sugarcoat some
comments in future posts to offset your critical eye..)

ALM is a good LinkPop tool, but it is not the best on the market in my opinion (yet).  There is a large demand for a top-notch Link Popularity tool.  I have clients that could use it and I am sure IGods does too.  I would prefer to have Advance Link Manager refine this to be the perfect tool for my sake and for ALM's own business success.  If not, I'm sure other firms will such as Web Position Gold, SEOElite or others will be happy to do so.

Re: data use?

Hello Wildman,

Well, I have friends who bought ALM too, and they did not run into any problem and I didn't see anyone else saying that ALM runs "insanely slow". Of course, they did not use it with very large projects (I mean more than 50 domains and 10 SEs) nor did I, because I saw it was not very friendly when it came to system resources. But in time, I expect Caphyon to improve that, after all, that's why we pay money for it right?
What amazed me regarding iGods, was that he was so critic with this software and he didn't even bought it. If he would have paid money for it, I would've understood, but when you are in trial? Come on. If he donesn't like it, nobody is forcing him to buy it right? But since he tried it and is so upset with the things that he said don't work, all I can think is that he did not find any software to best ALM.

I'm sure that others will sweep the market from under their feet if they don't act quickly. But I think they are doing something about it. I would hate to be dissapointed by ALM when AWR worked so fine so far.
