Topic: Domain Pages: removing

I used the Import button to discover about 100 pages from a site (it didn't do a great job... has quotes around a lot of them that I had to manually remove).

(I must admit, I have no idea why I'd want to add domain pages, I only just relized that I was *supposed* to use the import button to add inner pages for some unknow reason... Shouldn't ALM discover these inner pages during it's indexed page count query to the engine?)

Unfortunatley, MSN's got it's panties in a knot, and now it blocks me after about 40 rapid queries (I noticed I couldn't get any MSN activity in my Advanced Web Ranking last night either!!!!! Bastards, and they actually wanted me to work for them!)

Anyway, since there don't seem to be any links to these inner pages, and I can't get any link reporting from MSN with all these pages listed, I decided to remove them.

Yeah, right... good bloody luck. There's no way to multiple select the domain pages. So, I now have to manually:
1) click a single link
2) click Remove
3) click OK
... 121 TIMES.

This is driving me insane! Why wouldn't a shift-select work? THIS is why I loathe Java. It gives you the finger when it comes to interface.

Well, my time's important... is there no way to remove multiple links simultaneously?

Re: Domain Pages: removing

Hi iGods,

There was a problem on the msn search engine yesterday, but it was already fixed. I ran an update and everything worked fine. Please try again and tell me if it works.

The multiple links selection (in the Referrers tab) works on the last ALM version 1.0.1. So, if you don't have this version, please go to our download page:

http://www.advancedlinkmanager.com/download.html

download the application for your platform, try again and tell me if it works now.

If there are any other problems, please do not hesitate to contact me. I'll be glad to help.

Best regadrs,

Robert

Re: Domain Pages: removing

I'm actually wanting to delete multiple *domain pages* from a domain. Is there a way to delete more than one domain page at a time? 336 clicks was insanity.

thanks.

Re: Domain Pages: removing

Hi iGods,

Removing multiple links works only in the Referrers tab (not in the Backlinks one). Also, it works on the last ALM version 1.0.1. Did you install it?

To do that please go to the Referrers tab and select multiple links using the "Shift" or "Crtl" keys. After that, right click on the selected links and select "Remove" option.

Please tell me if it works.

Best regards,

Robert

Re: Domain Pages: removing

I'm not talking about backlinks or referrers, I'm talking about domain pages... that's what you call them: pages on MY site in MY domain, added through the Domain Pages button.

Re: Domain Pages: removing

I'm not going crazy, thanks for the confirmation

Say, why would I *want* to add Domain pages? Wouldn't it make more sense for ALM to add those pages as it discovers them?

Also, when I did a manual add for a site that has lots of javascript nav, a lot of the urls came in surrounded by quotes... might be an idea to filter those before adding.

cheers.

Re: Domain Pages: removing

Hi iGods,

>>Say, why would I *want* to add Domain pages? Wouldn't it make more sense for ALM to add those pages as it discovers them?

The domain pages addition dialog was meant to help people who only want to monitor a few relevant webpages from their website. The "Import" button was meant to help the users who want to monitor the large majority of their webpages.

So, if you want to monitor, let's say your index and download.html pages, you will add them through the domain pages dialog.

If you want to monitor the entire website, just import the sitemap page and all links from that page will be imported as targets.

>>Also, when I did a manual add for a site that has lots of javascript nav, a lot of the urls came in surrounded by quotes... might be an idea to filter those before adding.

ALM does not retrieve links contained in javascripts. We have no way of knowing what the function contained that anchor will do. So, even the search engines will ignore that link.

Please tell me if that answers your questions.

Robert

Re: Domain Pages: removing

when you do an indexed page count query on the engine, it should *tell* you what pages it knows... that would be a better way to import interior pages than simple adding the entire batch of who-knows-how-many... no reason to query the search engines for what they can tell us they don't know, ya know?

as for links with quotes... why is ALM picking up those links? believe me, your parser *is* detecting links inside javascript code, which usually have single quotes surrounding them when they come in. please trim any captured links of extraneous spaces and quote mark.

thanks!

This feature is a particularity for only some search engines. It is exactly like if you were manually checking on, let's say google, write as a keyword an URL and select the "Find web pages from the site www" option.

It is a good idea to implement this in our application. I just added in our todo list and it will be available for the future releases.

ALM detects only the "href" from an anchor tag. Link Manager does not detect the links inside a javascript code like "javascript:openURL("http://www.website.com").

Please tell me if that answers your questions.

Re: Domain Pages: removing

Hi iGods,

If you look into this page source code you will find this:
<a href='Default.asp?Page=111' ,  about 20 lines after the javascript code ends (</script>). This is the way the page was created, with single quotes in the href tag, not in the javascript code.

Please tell me if I am wrong or is I misunderstand.

Best regards,

Robert
