We can also provide you with an evaluation extension if you need more time to become confident in your decision to move ahead with a purchase (just contact us). So please, take advantage of our liberal evaluation policy and be sure that our software is right for you and your team before proceeding with a purchase. 2 Installation Issues:2.1 What is the Java Runtime Environment and why do I need it?The Java Runtime Environment (in short JRE) is the platform that enables Advanced Link Manager to run on almost any platform that exists today. You can thus use Advanced Link Manager on the operating system that you enjoy most. Advanced Link Manager requires the JRE version 1.4. If you have a previous version, please download the latest version for your operating system: http://www.apple.com/java/ (for Mac OS X). http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/ (for Windows and Linux). 2.2 How do I install Advanced Link Manager on Mac OS XPlease follow the steps below to install ALM on Mac OS X:
2.3 How do I upgrade Advanced Link Manager on MAC OS X?Please follow the steps below to upgrade ALM to a new version on Mac OS X:
2.4 Do I still need to install the JRE if I download the Windows version that comes bundled with it?No. The "Windows (bundled with JRE)" distribution comes bundled with the Java Runtime Environment so you don't need to download and install JRE separately. Hoewever, if you wish to run other Java enabled applications, you may need to download it. 3 Licensing Issues:3.1 May I run Advanced Link Manager from multiple computers?Yes, you may run Advanced Link Manager from multiple computers and operating systems, as long as you are the only one who uses Advanced Link Manager on these computers. For more information, please see the End User License Agreement. 3.2 Do I need a new installation code or registration number when I update to a new version? No. All you need to do is enter the original registration ID that you will receive with your purchase confirmation email. 3.3 Are updates free for the first year or do I need to purchase the program again to get the update?Advanced Link Manager comes with a 12 months maintenance plan, which entitles you to free product upgrades, free search engine updates, and free techical support for 12 months since the date of purchase. For more information about maintenance plans please see our page. 3.4 Will I loose any of my data (referrers, backlinks history, etc.) when upgrading to a new version? No. The application will retain your current license and the data gathered so far. 4 Technical Issues:4.1 I am running Windows 98 and I get an error at installation that says my Windows Installer is too old. What can I do?You need to update your Windows Installer software. Please download it from here. 4.2 When I run Advanced Link Manager I get the following message: "You are running Java version 1.3. Advanced Link Manager requires Java 1.4 or later." What does this mean? There are two situations when this happens:
In first case you need to download the latest JRE. You can find out more about JRE and the download location from the Java Runtime Environment question above. Alternatively, you can download the Advanced Link Manager distribution that comes bundled with the JRE 1.4. In the second case, the Advanced Link Manager installer will use the version that was installed last. The application will not work if you happened to install JRE 1.3 after JRE 1.4. To fix this problem on Windows, you should reinstall JRE 1.4. For Mac OS X, Linux and Solaris follow the steps below:
The Advanced Link Manager installer should now find the correct JRE (that is version 1.4) and the application should work correctly. 4.3 Advanced Link Manager seems to be slow - why?The speed of Advanced Link Manager depends on your Internet connection speed. If you have a DSL or cable modem connection, you can increase the number of simultaneous connections. Open the Preferences dialog and select a higher number in the "Maximum number of simultaneous connections" text box. Also, check that you aren't running other applications in the background that require a lot of bandwidth. 4.4 Can I install and run Advanced Link Manager on a client computer and have the data stored on a server? What if I run Advanced Link Manager from two client computers at the same time with this configuration?Yes. Advanced Link Manager keeps its data stored per project, and running an update for one project does not affect the data for the other projects. In case you run an update for the same project from different computers that point to the same data folder (or even from the same computer) Advanced Link Manager has a locking mechanism which prevents data from being corrupted. 4.5 After updating my project I do not see the "rank" column. Why?You need to download a third party plugin to get rank information. For this, please press the update button, the green triangle button in the toolbar. A dialog will show up where you need to select the "Gather rank" check box. When you press Start, an information dialog will pop up asking you to download the third party plugin. After the download is complete you will need to restart the application. Every time you make an update, please make sure that the "Gather rank" check box is selected. |
